On November 15, Catarina Miranda concluded her PhD, titled:
“Triaxial Wet-Spun Fibers as Potential Therapeutic Peptide and Essential Oils Delivery Systems for Chronic Wound Care.”
The research focused on the production of three-layered wet-spun fibers, designed to carry bioactive agents for future applications in the production of wound dressings for chronic wounds. This work involved extensive physical, mechanical, thermal, and biological characterizations, demonstrating the innovation and suitability of the developed system for its intended purpose.
The PhD was supervised by Dr. Helena Felgueiras (2C2T) and co-supervised by Professor Dr. Susana Costa and Dr. Natália Homem, representing the Centre of Chemistry at the University of Minho and Simoldes Plastics Company, respectively.
This research also included international collaborations with the following institutions:
– University of Porto (Portugal)
– University of Lyon 1 (France)
– Aalto University (Finland)
This work represents a significant contribution to the field of chronic wound care, paving the way for future developments in Textile Engineering applied to healthcare.
Congratulations to Dr. Catarina Miranda on this remarkable achievement!
