University of Minho Achieves 21st Place Worldwide in Textile Engineering in the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024
The University of Minho (UMinho) celebrates a significant international recognition in the ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024, with Textile Engineering securing the 21st spot globally. This achievement places UMinho among the top 50 textile universities in the world, and as the leading university in the European Union (and second in geographical Europe, behind the University of Manchester) in this field.
This ranking evaluated over 1,900 universities from 96 countries, covering 55 specific areas of teaching and research. The assessment is based on nine indicators, including the number of scientific publications in prestigious journals, the impact of these publications, international collaboration, and new indicators introduced in 2024 that measure the international prestige of the institutions.
In addition to Textile Engineering, the University of Minho also achieved its best ranking in Food Science and Technology, entering the Top 75 worldwide. Other standout areas include Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, both making it into the Top 150 globally.
University of Minho continues to demonstrate its leadership in scientific fields, also excelling in Education (Top 200) and Law (Top 300). In total, 12 of its teaching and research areas were included in the 2024 edition of the ranking, an increase compared to the previous edition. Among the highlighted areas are Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Psychology, and Human Biology, reflecting UMinho’s growing impact across various research fronts.
